Photo Of the Week: Locks in Köln

CONTRIBUTED BY SARAH FORTE

Cologne (Koln) Love Locks | www.germanyja.comLove locks have been appearing all over the world for quite awhile now. Some say they started in Italy, others say China. The idea is the same all over the world: Secure your lock with your Love and then throw away the key, showing that your love can and will never come undone. In Köln (Cologne) you can lock your love lock to the Hohenzollern Bridge and throw the key into the Rhine River below. In some places, love locks are discouraged because of the damage they cause to the structures. Even though the weight of the combined locks is estimated to be over two tons, the city still promotes the site.

Where else have you seen Love Locks?

What else is there to do in Köln (Cologne)?

Romano-Germanic Museum (Römisch-Germanisches Museum)

The Chocolate Museum (Schokoladenmuseum)

The Köln (Cologne) Christmas Markets (Yes, there are more than one)

Note: This is the newest photograph in our Photo of the Week category on Germany Ja! Do you have a picture that says “This is Germany” and want to share it with us? It can be a place, a person, a plate of food… whatever says “Germany” to you. We don’t need a lot of words to go with it, because a picture is worth… well, you know! If you have a picture to share, send it to submissions @germanyja.com. Danke!
