ECLC International Kindergarten (Yongsan)

Editor’s Note: This information about ECLC first appeared on this post about Yongsan preschool options. In order to keep the conversations more coherent, we’ve closed comments on that original post and separated all school reviews to their own posts. If your child has or is currently attending this program, please feel free to leave your input here so other parents can make an informed decision. Thanks!

ECLC International Kindergarten

ECLC is in Hannam-dong, so quite close to base.  It’s got an excellent reputation and even though they are not Montessori, one parent says she finds their principles very similar–child-centered, inquiry-based, they teach to where your particular child is at.

From website: “ECLC is a nurturing international school, dedicated to providing our students with the fundamental skills necessary to become lifelong learners: the capacity to inquire, to express ideas, to think independently, and to work cooperatively. By educating the whole child, we prepare them to become responsible, compassionate global citizens for an ever-changing world.”

Parent take:  PROS “It changed my daughter’s life.” CONS  “It’s ridiculously expensive.”

NOTE: This is an international school, meaning you need a foreign passport to enroll.  The parents’ employer often pays for tuition so these schools tend to cost a bundle.  I’ve heard that some will offer discounts for military families, so if you are military it’s worth a shot to see if that’s the case.  Some military families send their kids to these schools, but from what I gather mainly State Dept. families. I’m only including the preschool/kindy info here, but they go up through school age.

For all you parents looking for a preschool that suits your kids, we’re hoping to add a little something to aid in your search. Parents of children who attend various preschools here in Korea have filled out a series of questions about the schools for the benefit of the rest of us. We welcome more than one voice on each school since everyone has a different experience, so please feel free to add in your two cents in the comments.

If your child attends a school that has not been reviewed on this site, please contact our Submissions Manager for the template.
