Somang – Yongsan Korean Language Preschool

Editor’s Note: This information about Somang first appeared on this post about Yongsan preschool options. In order to keep the conversations more coherent, we’ve closed comments on that original post and separated all school reviews to their own posts. If your child has or is currently attending this program, please feel free to leave your input here so other parents can make an informed decision. Thanks!

Somang

This is a small Korean daycare/preschool across the street from the Korean War Memorial Museum behind the little playground on the corner.  There are a handful of American kids in the school, but it is a Korean school and all the instruction is in Korean.  (There are one or two English speaking teachers though).  While this would probably be considered a day care, they do songs, crafts, learn letters and shapes.  Go on field-trips, etc.

Parent take:  It’sa very warm and loving school.  My daughter never likes being dropped off anywhere without her brother, but never has a problem here.  The teacher sends home a little notebook each day with what she did/needs (in Korean) and explains to me in English at the door.  Every month I get a thick packet of my daughter’s crafts and pictures they took of her at school throughout the month.  So close to base, great price and hours.  CONS:  Seems to always be a waiting list here.

Contact: 02.790.9020 (Korean only.  Better to visit the school.)

Ages: American age 2yo-4yo

Hours: About 8:30am-about 6pm  (but most parents pick up by about 4pm).  You can pickup / dro-off whatever hours you choose.

Cost: 373,000KRW/month (includes special classes like Korean music, building class, English class.

For all you parents looking for a preschool that suits your kids, we’re hoping to add a little something to aid in your search. Parents of children who attend various preschools here in Korea have filled out a series of questions about the schools for the benefit of the rest of us. We welcome more than one voice on each school since everyone has a different experience, so please feel free to add in your two cents in the comments.

If your child attends a school that has not been reviewed on this site, please contact our Submissions Manager for the template.
