After spending the day in Trier, we decided to finish the night off in Luxembourg since it was so close. It was an easy drive (less than 30 minutes) from Trier using the autobahn. Since we were familiar with Luxembourg from previous visits, finding the market was easy. Just like in Trier, we had problems finding a parking garage with space, but with a little patience, we were able to use our usual parking garage (Monterrey).
There were 3 areas to visit, but the easiest to find and most scenic is Place de la Constitution. A large ferris wheel and the pyramid right off of the main street in front of the large statue. From here we enjoyed some soup (since it was so cold!) and more gluhwein. I bought a waffle on a stick from a nearby stand (you want to buy one!) and a grilled salmon sandwich (do not leave until you try one). This area was more suited for families since most of the rides and “Santa in a bubble” was set here for photos.
Crossing the main road and following another crowd of locals will lead you to Place d’Armes. This area is the setting for farmer’s markets during normal weekends and another Christmas Market location more suited for adults since there are very little activities for the youngsters. There are numerous food and drink stands around a large tent that has tables and heaters in place for the large crowds of adults enjoying the treats.
There is another area setup as a Christmas village nearby in Place de Paris, but we didn’t go and see it. We didn’t stay here very long since it was very cold and windy (felt chilly even when standing next to a heater). We decided to relax in a cafe to warm up before leaving.
