The Children’s Museum at The War Memorial of Korea

Children’s Museum title

When I heard a new children’s museum had opened up by the War Memorial right across from USAG-Yongsan, I was excited to check it out with my little guy and some friends. We parked on post and had a nice walk through the airplane section to the new building.

The outdoor section has a fun little airplane themed playground, an eating area (as no food is allowed in the museum), and ample space for outdoor events. I am guessing there will be some fun programs during the warmer months.

Inside there are a number of rooms that lead through various exhibits about Korea’s war history. Some are fun and informative, while others are a bit scary for the little ones. Be aware of your surroundings and I recommend you avoid pushing any of the buttons for the large movie screens (especially in room C – “Sorrow over the Lost Country” – which shows a cartoon of the Mugunghwa Grannies being taken by the Japanese).

There are number of fun photo opportunities throughout the museum, including a trick eye, as well as interactive puzzles and games.

The last section is the “play” area – with a padded play area for children under 110 cm and a large climbing section for children who are taler than 110 cm. Be aware – there are attendants who will measure your kids’ heights and they will NOT let them climb if they are shorter than 110 cm (my 4 1/2 year old was too short and NOT happy!)

There is a coloring area, a fun looking gift shop, and a small cafe with outdoor seating. The entrance has a library, baby feeding room, restrooms, and storage lockers.

So in short, a fun little place for a visit, when combined with the planes outside and the larger War Memorial/Museum, as long as your kids will fit into the height requirements inside. From the website, it says their target audience is children ages 8-10.
