Corso Cinema, Stuttgart

Corso Kino Theater Stuttgart Germany | www.germanyja.comA recent Mom’s Night Out led a small group of us to the Corso Cinema in Stuttgart Vaihingen to see Gone Girl, and it was fantastic (both the movie and the theater). If you’ve been in Germany for a while, you may have noticed that there is a very heavy tendency towards dubbing English and American films, and this little German quirk sometimes makes me avoid the movies all together. I do not want to hear the voice of the actor that plays Ben Affleck in German; I want to hear Ben Affleck! The Corso bills itself as a dub-free zone. Most of the films are offered in English, but they also have occasional offerings in French (usually with subtitles).

I’ve taken my son several times to see cartoons in the theater, and he’s very impressed with their “giant T.V.” The theaters themselves are not the modern, stadium style seating you’ll see at the big megaplexes, but the ambiance is great. The staff members are friendly and helpful. We had a recent reservation mix-up and it was no problem to fix it.

One of the major draws of the Corso is that they have a very well stocked snack bar. There’s American-style popcorn (salty, not sweet), sodas and candy from the US, Ben and Jerry’s ice cream (and other ice creams), and beer! The seats have shelves built into them so you can set your popcorn and beer down without putting them on the floor. I had a real Corona and a huge popcorn, and it was awesome.

The Corso also has an on-going deal with the Maulwurf Pub just down the road. Your movie ticket gets you ½ off your first drink, so if you want to make a night of it, you’re all set!

If you’re going out to see a new release on a Friday or Saturday night, reservations are recommended. You can reserve online and bring your reservation number to the ticket counter to pay on the day of the film. They also have a facebook page if you want to keep up with their special showings and new releases!
