Looking for a shopping market that is not a large overwhelming maze like some of the markets in Seoul can be? Insadong is just the spot for you! A unique blend of souvenirs and traditional Korean arts, Insadong has something to offer for everyone!
There is one main shopping street in the Insadong market. The most common way to start is near Anguk train station. When you arrive at Anguk, take exit 6, and come straight out until you see the big paintbrush. At this square, take a left and there you are!
The above photo was taken around 10:30 in the morning on this particular day. It is very, very quiet in the mornings. Most shops open around 10 or 10:30, and the streets are full by lunchtime!
There are many shops with souvenirs like fans, t-shirts, and flags for shopping to send things “back home.”
There are also many shops dedicated to the arts. Galleries, paintings, and bojagi are a few of the many items you will find on Insadong Market Street.
Insadong is also known for its selection of celadon, paper lanterns, and paintbrushes.
For a market within a market experience in Insadong, visit Ssamziegil Shopping Mall. Its spiral, multi-floor layout is sure to impress you along with all of the little boutiques it holds inside!
And finally, come hungry! And thirsty! Insadong is known also for its tea rooms and abundance of street food and restaurants.
Happy exploring!
