They say Kusadasi is the gateway to Ephesus. This is true. If you find yourself taking a trip to Izmir, you must see this main tourist attraction and of course do not miss out on some awesome Grand Bazaar shopping in Kusadasi for all your Turkish souvenirs, carpets, lamps, scarfs & many more!
Kusadasi Grand Bazaar is located right across the street from the main cruise ship port. You will see many people from all over the world browsing and shopping. Many of the people come from these cruise ships that dock in Kusadasi for the day, as they board the ship for their week long Greek Island cruise. You cannot miss it!
Keep in mind that you are in a very touristy area. Prices are a little on the higher end, but everything is quoted in Turkish Lira, unless you are in the market for Turkish rugs. Then you will be quoted in US$. I have to say, they do have some beautiful handmade Turkish carpets (many styles you cannot get in the alley at Incirlik) and the staffs working in these shops all speak very good English. After visiting the showroom and you happen to “fall in love” with a rug, I would highly recommend that you bargain, bargain, bargain!
In addition to great shopping, there are many restaurants and desserts shops to feast away. There are a variety of choices from traditional Turkish foods, to European restaurants, to Asian faire, and of course who could forget to stop and get some of delicious Dondurma (special Turkish ice cream)?
If you were looking to explore more of Turkey, I would highly recommend putting Kusadasi down as one of your sites/vacation spot to visit!
