I did it. I took the plunge!
I booked a hotel online at Booking.com in Antalya based on the reviews of 48 million+ of my closest friends and they totally came through for me!
It was actually the reviews of about 700+ people who gave the White Garden Pansion in Old Town Antalya such a favorable review that I decided to give it a try. We had stayed at the beach resort area of Antalya before, but we really wanted to try something different for this trip, and White Garden Pansion was exactly what we were looking for in a hotel.
The Old Town or Kaleici area of Antalya is a super quaint, quiet area of historic Antalya. The area offers several historic sites like Hadrean’s Gate and the Broken Mineret. It is also a very short walk to the Old Harbor with lots of great shops and restaurants. And it is also right off of Ataturk Street, which appears to be a trendy street with plenty of shopping and restaurants.
Pro Tip: This hotel is located within the Old Town walls, which means, for walking, it is an ideal location, but getting your car down the one way historic streets is quite a feat. There is basically one way into the historic area… and one way out. Make sure you have your GPS handy to guide you! And also note that a train runs along Ataturk Street making several roads dead end or impassible. Your GPS might even tell you that you can cross or pass over Ataturk Street, but sticking to major streets is the way to go, otherwise you might end up driving down or up the train tracks. I could be speaking from personal experience, but I will never tell.
Now back to the Pansion –The staff were extremely helpful, friendly, welcoming and they spoke a bit of English. We booked a family room, which had two rooms, which more than enough space for our family of 4. It had a mini kitchen with a fridge and stove too! The beds weren’t as comfy as I prefer, but they weren’t awful, and the sheets were clean and changed daily if requested.
Every morning, there was a delicious Turkish breakfast down in the courtyard area of the hotel. The courtyard was so beautiful and peaceful, and the breakfast was among the best I’ve had in Turkey over the past 2 years. We had a great time visiting with the other hotel guests and hotel staff every morning before we’d start our adventures in Antalya. My kids really loved the three resident tortoises that live in the courtyard!
The prices in off-season are very reasonable. We paid about $60 a night in the off-season (We were there in late March) but the hotel staff said that if we wanted to come in the summer time to be sure to book well in advance and expect the prices to be in line with the tourist season.
