I was at Bonjour the other day to order canvas’, and the owner of Bonjour, Dafne, was working on a needlepoint project. I grew up doing artsy-craftsy needlepoint projects with my mom, and thought she might really enjoy a Turkish needlepoint project as a gift. So I inquired where she purchased her supplies, and she said she got them from a tiny little store in Adana called Makara. I asked for directions, and she kindly drew me a map to get me there from Bonjour, but expressed doubt that I would find it. I love challenges, so off I went to find Makara!
It actually was not too hard of a challenge because her map was amazing! But she was correct, the store was tiny. Very very tiny. But it was packed full of thread (both spools and DMC floss), cross-stitch/needlepoint projects, books, buttons, yard, ribbon, needles, sewing scissors, cross-stitch/needlepoint fabric (on bolts!, embroidery hoops, and just about anything else you’d need to do a cross-stitch project. The prices are great too. I paid 14TL for a very nice needlepoint book and 5TL for a mini all-inclusive kit (these would be great beginner kits for kids or anyone wanting to learn).
The ladies who run the shop are extremely kind and helpful, but they do not speak any English.
They do take credit cards, which I was very happy about as I did not bring enough TL (partially because I didn’t expect there to be so much to buy or that I would actually find the shop).
Payment: TL or Card
Hours: I went around 10:30am on a weekday, and they were open. Hours were not posted, but I assume 10am-5pm would be the hours.
Address: Kurtuluş Mahallesi, 64019. Sokak No:44, 01130 Seyhan/Adana, Turkey

Parking is a little tricky, but you do have options. You could stay parked at Bonjour and trek over. It’s a little less than 1/2 mile away. Or you could park in at a close by Oto-park (36.999154, 35.325339) for 6TL. There is also sometimes parking in that area on Ataturk Cad on the side of the street (parallel parking). You could also try parking right in front of the store too if there is a space available.
