Baristella, Seoul

A good western style sandwich isn’t always an easy thing to find in Korea which is why I was extra happy to have found Baristella, a cafe in Hongdae with the best bagels I’ve eaten in Seoul. The cafe is massive and spread over 4 floors so finding a seat isn’t a problem. After placing your order you are given a buzzer which will go off when your order is ready.

With 10 different bagels to choose from and over 13 cream cheese flavors, there is almost too much choice! We eventually settled on a jalapeño bagel with scallion cream cheese. and a cinnamon and raisin bagel with orange cream cheese. How do I begin to describe these!? These slightly warmed bagels are generously spread with your choice of cream cheese and are absolutely delicious.

We also tried the cotton candy yogurt smoothie (5400 won). Whilst it looks impressive it was far far too sweet for either of us to handle. And I was with a man who puts 4 sugars in his coffee! What is a great option though is the set menu with your choice of bagel and cream cheese with an Americano coffee for 5000 won. The perfect breakfast or mid morning snack for a fair price. So next time you’re in Hongdae and fancy a quick and easy bite, go and grab a baristella bagel!
