As the weekend approaches, you might be wondering which Christmas Markets to visit. Seligenstadt, just a half hour from Frankfurt and about 45 minutes from Wiesbaden, hosts a lovely market among its Fachwerk-lined streets, all lit up for Advent.
A unique feature to this market is that on the weekends throughout the market season, its monastery opens up to visitors. Not only can you walk the grounds, but if you go into the monastery, a 3-euro ticket allows you to wander its museum-like rooms. Best of all, artisans sit in those rooms, selling table after table of handcrafted pottery, jewelry, painted decorations, nativity scenes, and so much more. Although the market runs daily, the weekend is definitely the time to go!
What is there for the kids? A carousel as always, plus visiting and petting the animals at the monastery, and a horse-drawn wagon ride through town.
There wasn’t much missing from this market, which stretched throughout the streets of town. Food, outdoor decorations, scarves, handcrafted wooden decorations, pottery, and an entire kiosk of nothing but gummy candies—what’s not to love?!
