If you are looking to get outdoors and experience an amazing and refreshing place just outside the city of Seoul, The Garden of Morning Calm is a great choice. The garden is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and it is the oldest private garden in South Korea. It is a great place to explore for families and it’s an excellent place to get some wonderful pictures throughout the year.
The garden is open year round and celebrates the four seasons each with a different festival. I was able to visit the garden during the summer festival of Roses and also again recently for the Winter Lighting Festival.
During the lighting festival which runs from December to March each year, over 30,000 lights illuminate the gardens. It is a wonderful place to experience during the holiday season and my family absolutely loved it! It was truly breathtaking!
Inside the garden there is a great Korean restaurant, coffee shop and gift shop. There is also a small convenience store to get snacks. We brought our stroller for our two small children and most areas of the garden are stroller friendly which helps when you have little ones.
It is a great place to visit for a day trip out of downtown Seoul. You could easily spend at least half a day there. It is about 40 miles to the east of the Yongsan area of Seoul. It’s a beautiful and scenic drive up and into the mountains to reach the garden and parking is free if you choose to drive. It takes about 2 hours to reach by car. If you love the outdoors or love to see holiday lights, The Garden of Morning Calm is a must see while in Korea!
