I visited the volcano with my husband and we followed the easy trail up to castle ruins and to the church that is perched at the top of the volcano. The trail was probably the easiest walk to ruins I have ever done and it is located next to a quaint restaurant. We didn’t grab a bite to eat while we were there but it was very busy which led me to believe that it was probably delicious!
My husband and I spent less than an hour here so it is definitely a great visit for when you would like to do multiple things in one day. What is nice about these ruins is that you are free to touch and explore them without a charge.
There were a lot stairs you had to take in order to reach the top so a stroller would not be a good choice. Grab a carrier instead and enjoy the breath taking views and the interesting basalt that juts out of the sides of the volcano.
Dispersed around the ruins are beautiful religious mosaics. Then once you walk the remaining stairs you will be able to sit on benches and take in the view next to the darling, little church. You can have a look inside the church and take a seat on one of the benches as well.
I really enjoyed our little visit here and the fresh breeze and gorgeous view was definitely what I needed after a long week at work. The best part is that you can go on a Sunday. Pack a picnic and grab a loved one. You’re sure to have a lovely day in the company of good food, a friend, and the view this place has to offer!
FREE parking is directly next to the volcano.
Admission to the area is also FREE
I couldn’t find an address, so instead I typed in Parkstein and it was simple to find by looking for the volcano.
We found this address later and it should get you to the parking area:
