Gino’s Pizza is a new New York-style pizza joint in Itaewon. It is by far the best pizza I’ve had since coming to Korea, and I suggest you try it soon before everyone knows about it and the line is out the door.
The interior is cozy and welcoming with a nice mixture of wood and brick. There’s a good view out over the city, since Gino’s is situated at the top of the hill on the second floor.
The pizzas come in regular and large sizes, and for a small surcharge, you can also get a pizza made half-and-half to try two different recipes.
On our two visits, we’ve tried “The Butcher” – traditional tomato sauce with pepperoni, sausage, and ham, “Brooklyn’s Best” – tomato sauce with both fresh and aged mozzarella, sausage, red onions, and fresh basil, and “Nellie Pie” – a white pizza with fresh mozzarella, fig jam, prosciutto, fresh arugula, and shaved parmesan. All three pizzas were fantastic, and I’d be hard pressed to choose a favorite.
The crust is a true stand-out at Gino’s. It was baked to the perfect level of doneness, and had that crisp and chewy texture combination that really makes a great slice of pizza.
I’ve heard rave reviews from other diners about the wings, so I will definitely be trying them in the future. I also look forward to trying some of the “Coming Soon” menu items such as “The Goodfella” and a buffalo chicken pizza with a buffalo cream sauce in place of a tomato sauce base.
