Ahhh, the Itaewon Global Village Festival of 2015. What a fun time! Thousands of people poured into the streets of Itaewon which meant no through traffic on the main strip. The DJs had a huge stage playing techno, 80s and any other music you could think of. Food vendors selling sangria to schwarma, pineapple to pina coladas and everything else in between. You could have a drink, eat appetizers, dinner and dessert all on the streets of Itaewon.
The fashion show at the far end of the strip showcased a variety of ethnicities in traditional dress, men and women, alike. Since it was our anniversary, we had a great time! People watching and listening to music makes for a great date! We slipped into a back street to eat at Linus’ BBQ, a traditional southern American BBQ restaurant with brisket, pork and fried mac and cheese! Nothing better, right?
This annual festival happens at the beginning of fall when the weather is perfect. Highs of 18 Celsius, blue skies and fall colored leaves. Perfection. It’s a great time to mingle with the wonderful people of Korea who come out to enjoy the festival with all of the expats, whether they are teachers, military personnel, nomads or business professionals.
If you make it to the festival this year – and you should – be prepared for lots of good food, good music and make time to explore some of the back streets off the beaten path. There are tons of good restaurants and shops hidden away.
